We never know when accidents may happen, so be prepared. Make sure you have a pet first aid kit in your car and another one handy at home.
If you’d like to make it yourself, pick up a waterproof plastic box and stock it with the following items:
Your pet’s info – Prepare a card with…
- Your name, phone numbers and address
- Your pet’s name, breed and color, date of birth, weight and microchip number
- Any medical conditions, allergies and medications she’s taking (with doses)
- Your vet’s name and phone number
- Your preferred emergency vet hospital’s phone number and address
Medical records – Store the card in a sealed plastic bag in your kit. Include copies of…
- Vaccination records
- Any medical records relevant to your pet in case she needs medical assistance
Meds and supplies – Get…
- Digital thermometer
- Two pairs of latex gloves,
- Gauze
- Cotton balls
- Nonstick bandages
- Adhesive tape
- Cotton swabs
- Scissors
- Tweezers
- Eyedropper
- Alcohol wipes
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Hand sanitizer or soap
- A tube of topical first-aid cream
- Antibiotic ointment
If you’d rather buy a pet first aid kit, here are some options:
Don’t forget to open up the kit and get familiarized with its items before storing it. I also recommend taking a pet first aid class. You will feel more comfortable to handle an emergency if you are already trained. Read more about how to prepare for an emergency here.

Dont forget to have a rope in your car, for emergencies in the snow!
Ropes can be kept in the vehicles for the emergency .Pet Kit is very much in use these days.So better make your things for more emergency .
Very sound advice! Even though my vet's office is so close to my home, I do have everything I need for emergencies!
Marise, I do the same, even though my vet is very close as well. I have a human and a pet kit at home and 2 more in the car. They have saved me some trips to the vet already.
