Since I treat Amber like it's Valentine's Day every day, it's always a challenge to come up with something special for her. If she had her way, I would spend the day refilling her food dish all day long, but being the responsible pet parent that I am, no matter how much I love her (or maybe because of how much I love her!), that's one Valentine's wish she won't get. She will, however, get a special breakfast, followed by an extra long play session. We'll spend a large part of the day cuddling together on our favorite sofa. I'll probably give in to her demands for treats a little more on this special day, and of course, she'll also get a special dinner. You can see a theme here – the way to Amber's heart is definitely paved with food and treats :-)
We begin Valentine's Day at Claire's house like every other day. Gus wakes up Claire by his incessant snoring, and she gives him a hug to shut him up. His tail will thump the bed, which is my cue to hop on the bed for snuggies. My movement will motivate Ginger, who will "claim Claire" by putting her paw on Claire's giggling chest. Then comes the hard part for Claire–she has to pet the three of us with only two hands–all the time being half asleep! We like it and try to see how long she'll keep it going. For breakfast, we are sure to get chunks of stew beef (saved for special occasions), and we'll run it off cross country skiing (Claire skis; we run and look for critters.) As a further treat, we'll end this by taking a nap at noontime. Okay that's it. You tell Claire about our plan, okay? Signed, Fenway.
I agree with Ingrid, I treat Mr. Earl well every day. The best compliment I ever received was "if reincarnation does exist, I want to come back as one of your cats."
Valentine's Day with Princess Sheba Darling
First she wakes me by walking on my head and purring
Second she leads me to the bathtub to run the water for a drink
Third she weaves in and out of my legs while I open a can of cat food
Fourth she sits in my favorite chair and gives herself a cleaning
Fifth she takes a nap on my lap while I wrote a poem about her
Sixth we take a break and have a little snack
Seventh she looks out the window while I go back to work
Eighth she curls up on my lap for another needed nap
Ninth we have dinner together–tuna fish for all
Tenth we watch reruns of Pet Star on TV
Eleventh I comb her tangles and compliment her beauty
Twelfth we climb into bed and snuggle beneath the covers
Thirteenth we fall asleep dreaming heart to heart
"No, you're not getting any."
Three pairs of sad Westie eyes look up at me, pleading, pleading.
"I said no! You'll get all farty!"
Three tails thump in unison, as if demonstrating the ease with which the malodorous expulsions might be dissipated by them should they occur.
(I feel a lump growing in my stomach.) "See what you're doing? I'm getting guilt-based indigestion!"
A trio of whimpers…of sympathy? of sarcasm? I can't tell.
"OK, if I give you each one piece of pepperoni from my super special, heart-shaped, Valentine's Day pizza from Papa Murphy's, will you be satisfied?"
I'm shown three head tilts, which I interpret as nods of ascent, and I dole out the greasy treats. These are inhaled in milliseconds.
"Way to savor, guys!"
(Several minutes later; naturally, during a good part of the movie we're watching) Sniff, sniff…"Oh, man!! I told you guys this would happen! (To hubby) Run, get the air freshener spray! … What?… No, not the Gentle Dew Atop the Pansies scent—the Über-stink Eradicator! … and a match! … and open a window … OMG, we're going to have to hire fumigators!! … Look, is that the wallpaper peeling—again?!"
Meanwhile, Blanche, Keely, and Ambrose settle down to snooze and take turns leaking their SBDs (silent but deadlies), oblivious to our olfactory suffering.
That's amore!
The Rat Pack and I may hit the road…if it warms up a bit. Just watch us…

Candace, this video is simply hilarious!
:-D
That video is adorable! You can tell that they love and trust you!
On Valentines Day with my pet, instead of Petie waking me up for food by aggressively pawing at my face, he will bring me breakfast in bed. Hot strong black coffee, an almond filled croissant from Balthazar (no clue how he will get this but not my problem) and some nice berries. Kip will draw a hot bath for me with some bath salts and then leave, giving my privacy. After my luxurious morning, I will feed the cats and they will be VERY GRATEFUL. They will let me pic them up and squeeze them and cuddle with them ALL I want and they will not resist at all.
Unexpectedly I will receive a beautiful bouquet of flowers from a secret admirer along with a note to be ready for dinner at 7pm. At 7pm my buzzer will buzz and a tall, dark and handsome gentleman will arrive at my door ready to take me out for a lovely dinner out on the town. He and the cats will exchange sly winks and we will be off for a wonderful evening.
Noone said it had to be cat's ideal valentines did theY?!
Two Grumpy Girls,
Ashley & Autumn will spend our Valentines as Single Ladies. We will spoil ourselves with a three course dinner. Appetizer options will be either a selection of dry kibble or a salad. Then, Autumn will hog all the Purina Tuna Entrée and leave Ashley with noodles for the main course. We will then share a bowl of ice cream. Autumn will settle in for her evening nap and leave Ashley to clean up.
Then Ashley will turn on the battery operated (aka Autumn proof) candles and pour herself a glass of wine. She will then log onto “Pandora.com” and fight with Autumn to get down off the computer.
The evening will end with a shared viewing of “The Time Travelers Wife”. During the movie Autumn will insist on having the seat directly in front of the TV. Lastly, Ashley will retire to her bed, where her feet will get a massage under the covers by a wide awake Autumn.
What a lovely evening!
~ Happy Valentines Day! Love, Ashley & Autumn.
Sad to say, I probably will be spending Valentine’s Day with my dog. I love him dearly, but he’s not very romantic company. A meal with him will mean getting to hear the GLURP, SLUP of senior formula kibble getting sucked down. And going out? Of course that’s a sniff around the back yard. And forget chivalry—I not only get to open the door for him, but I will do this all evening long. But what can I say? When he looks into my eyes, it’s genuine love. Or maybe the request for a dog biscuit.
Tammy, you just have to find some really tasty treats, and it will be true love.
:-)
For Valentine's Day, my Hubby will not be an issue. However, Keeway, my four legged son will be getting a really long walk at Fresh Pond. Next we will visit Mi Mi (My Mom whom Keeway loves and actually says "I love Mi Mi" on the way to her house). Next stop…Grampies on Revere Beach! I have no Idea what surprises he'll have in store for my boy, but I'm sure it will be awesome!.
Finally back at home he will open many presents and have a carob cake with a big heart on it!
Think he'll like it?
Valentines Day….ahhhh the day of love. Well I know what I love…I love to wake up everyone (who is sleeping in) with a rousing alarm bark. It helps to let them know that potentially someone within the block is walking on the sidewalk. I know my next call to action will be herding them to the door …how I love me some early morning walk time…the crisp air, the newly laid dog tracks…sniffffff. Then I think it will be time for my snickety-snack: chicken jerky! Yummm Then a little play time, followed by, you guessed it…another little snickety snack. Then a big long streched out nap on the couch with my fav blanket. Now, can't sleep the whole day away, so a little meet n greet at the dog park…hullo, how do you do, how are ya, how ya been, whatcha been up to? Then a nice chewie, yeah!! And for dinner…well now I don't mind sharing whatever you are havin cause I loves ya. Then let's top off this lovefest with me sleepin in the big bed….remember how I used to wrap around your head? Yep, that's what I want. As told to me by Riley the Papillon Kelly
Celebrating Valentine's Day with our two keeshonden, Apache and Lola, may be complicated since they were whisked away by "Da JetKar or da Ark or da heptikopter," I'm not sure which, leaving "hollygrafs" in their place so we wouldn't know they are off on an adventure with their keesie, collie, and kitty friends from all across the world. We're not supposed to know they took off with Max and Crystal and Sethie and Zero and Kat, et. al. (as in "we et it all") to compete in the 4L LYmpiks in Vankoover and the Ditarod in Alasska, but we peeked at their email when they weren't looking! We wouldn't have let them go except for the fact that we know they are in safe hands with Koach Pearl and Queen Opal, Nicky and some of the more experienced animal athletes on the trip.
Part 2 Valentine's Day with Lola and Apache
Apache is scheduled to compete in kurling, which suits him well because if his curly, bushy tail and ability to yell his head off. He is also on the hokky teem, which as I understand it involves some variation on the games of "pants on fire" and "keepaway" and utilizes sticks and flying pucks to chase. At the last minute he was also drafted to participate in a 2-dog bobsledding team, which he should enjoy because it involves speed faster than a car ride.
Part 3 Valentine's Day with Lola and Apache
Lola is excited about the prospect of icey dansing with her dashing partner Zero. They plan a romantic short program with the theme of Fantom ub da Oppera, chosen in part because they both can wear masks to hide their shyness. Their long program (still in development) may utilize the western figure of the Loan aRanger, who should be popular with the audience in these hard economic times. The idea is that Zero might skate in to rescue pretty Lola from danger, another romantic theme that fits well with Valentine's Day. Of course, keesies already wear spectacles that could double as masks, so the costume designers can focus on other things, like a cowboy hat, kerchief, gloves and spurs for Zero, and Lola's beautiful skating dresses.
Part 4 Valentine's Day with Lola and Apache
After the LYmpiks, they are all off to participate in the Ditarod and the Farebanx Icey Skulpshur Festibal and to visit the Samon Bake and Hot Lips Ice Creem Shops for their favorite flavors which include libber browneez and Baked Alasska. (You can follow their trip on http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/keesdogpark/ by searching for LYmpiks and Ditarod threads in the archives and current messages).
Part 5 Valentine's Day with Lola and Apache
Finally, they will return, assuming we will be none the wiser, since the hollygrafs they left home look and act just like they do. In the meantime, for Valentine's Day, we will play with the hollygrafs of Lola and Apache as if they were not thousands of miles away, giving them extra belly rubs and treats and more time playing tug. And of course, we will be watching the LYmpiks together, hoping to catch a glimpse of the real Lola and Apache on TV!
Great book cover!
Hmmmm that is awesome.
I am making an information blog similar to this. If you permit, I will want to use some of your content. And I will leave necessary referencing of course :) Please do let me know via email. Thanks in advance.
