Inmate trains service dog for Iraq war vet

By Daniela Caride Publisher

This 7-minute video from NEADS – Dogs for Deaf and Disabled Americans is a gem. It tells the story of yellow Lab Buddy, a service dog whose training has been financed by a woman who lost her son in Iraq; Buddy’s trainer, an inmate; and the war veteran who got Buddy.

Over 80 puppies raised in NEADS’ Prison PUP Partnership have been placed as service dogs so far. Prison dogs get trained in half the time as dogs raised in foster homes because of the higher level of training they receive from inmates.
