When we do one thing for a pet in need

By Daniela Caride Publisher

When we do just one thing for a pet in need, we change the world.

Watch Stanley’s story on this 6-minute video. But bring out the Kleenex first!

I wish you are all lucky enough to be saved by a wonderful pet like Stanley in 2010.

Happy new year!

If you feel like doing one thing, you can still make a 2009 tax-deductible donation to an animal organization you enjoy or become a volunteer. Here are the nonprofits I help regularly. They accept donations online!

Phinney's Friends Phinney’s Friends helps people keep their pets during times of hardship. The organization helps elderly, people with HIV, cancer and many other disabling illnesses providing pet care.

I am one of the founders, a board member and the communications coordinator there.

Rolling Dog Ranch Rolling Dog Ranch Animal Sanctuary is a ranch in Montana where a couple cares for more than 70 disabled animals. They take in and care for dogs, cats, horses and many other pets nobody wants.

The Daily Tail sends a monthly donation to the ranch.

FARS The Feline Adoption & Rescue Society runs two no-kill shelters in Massachusetts. The organization is known for its willingness to help cats who need extra medical care.

I work as a board member and also edit the organization’s newsletter, Cat Chat.

MSPCA MSPCA takes in any abandoned animal and enforces animal rights laws. I volunteer there by playing with the cats and cleaning their cages. I also take donations to MSPCA for the homeless dogs and cats the organization cares for.

My name is Carmello. I'm athletic like the baller, sweet like the candy bar, but spelled my own way because I am one unique pup! Come adopt me at the MSPCA!

  • Beautiful Dani and, … happy new year!

  • Marcia Amaral

Very very moving Dani….. I hope our cats here in Parque Lage have a Good New Year… They also deserve it. Have you seen the mail I’ve sent you yesterday??? Please resend it to as many people in Brazil as possible….

If each one of us do a little thing in favor of animals , clearly something good must happen….

  • Thank you Dani, for posting this video. Getting a dog out of a shelter is not the end goal, is it just the very very beginning of the entire rescue story. I hope to post further updates about Stanley on his rescue journey to get well and to find a forever home. Thank you for spreading the rescue message! Much love, Cathy and the cockers (CampCocker.com)

  • Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! I have two "Stanleys" in my home and my heart, AngelTillman from CCAS in NJ, and GabrielDeafBlindPup rescued from the brink in Wyoming to his furrever family in South Carolina!. Every little Just One Thing we do every day makes a difference! And huge thanks to Heigl's Hounds of Hope for Stanley's rescue!

    • That's wonderful, Karen! I am fostering for the first time now. A cat named Bo lost his home because of an emergency, and I took him home. The temperature here in Cambridge is freezing, reaching below the 20s (without wind chill factor). He's safe and sound here until he finds his forever family. I feel so happy I could offer him one thing – shelter.

      :-)

  • Never think that one little thing you can do would not make a difference….this definitely takes a village! Thanks for sharing this "one thing". Stanley and all of his predecessors will feel the love. Happy New Year!
