The Petmate Litter Locker comes with a scoop (top right). Open the lid (top left) to dump the kitty litter. Crank the blue wheel (center) to lock the litter in it.
I can’t compare my Petmate Litter Lockers to any other cat litter disposal system. I haven’t seen anything that even comes close to this product in quality. I have four — one beside each litter box in the house — and couldn’t be happier with them.
This litter can has two parts — the can, which has a wheel that you turn from the outside (see litter can’s blue wheel on the picture to your right), and a plastic bag cartridge.
The cartridge contains a long sleeve of plastic bag folded inside. You attach it to the wheel, then to the can… and voilá! As you crank the wheel, it pulls the plastic bag out of the cartridge and rolls it around the wheel axle.
After throwing kitty poop in the can (the can already comes with a scoop), you turn the wheel, trapping the litter in the rolled-up bag. It seals really well — no nasty odors come out.
Emptying the Litter Locker is pretty straightforward. You open the can, pull out the wheel that holds the rolled bag and throw it in the trash.
I empty my four Petmate litter lockers every two weeks, and I change the cartridge maybe once a month.
The Petmate Litter Locker itself is easy to clean as well — I vacuum it every time I clean my house. Also, it looks nice and doesn’t stain with heavy use. One of my litter lockers is 3 years old and looks brand new (featured on the pictures).
