Some people don’t go out of their way to help others. Others do. One of our readers sent me these pictures featuring two kids rescuing a puppy from the water.

now those kids deserve a humanitarian award. Is there any way to track them down ? i'd love to write and thank them for their generosity.
Hi, Joan
You are so right. Unfortunately we have no way to track them down. They are somewhere in Latin America, I guess.
This happened in Brazil…. Those two boys were probably helping their family varnishing shoes in the streets or selling some kind of food…
Joan , probably we will never hear about them again.. We can only pray (if you heve faith in something) or desire very strobgly that they are happy, safe and with health…..They surely deserve it!!!
I could see myself doing the same thing when I was a kid and my mother chewing me out after. They acted from the heart.
Very sweet, Starr.
:-)
Joan, I have just received an e-mail from a reader. She told me those pictures were taken in Sao Paulo, Brazil, at Tiete's riverbank.
The Tietê river runs through the Metropolitan area of São Paul. It's an enormous river that crosses the entire city. I remember years ago, when I lived in Brazil, there were flood sin Sao Paulo because of Tietê every time a big rain came. The city became a real mess, with traffic jams that get people stuck for hours. To give you an idea, Sao Paulo has 20 million inhabitants.
Dani I wrote early but my text has disappeared… I remember this photo…. These two kids are porr children helping their parents by selling things near the traffic lights….
We can only wish that they are well, safe and healthy
This photo was taken in Brazil and in São Paulo. They were problaby selling some food or sweets that were located inside the little box they have in their hands
Thanks, Marcia! Yeah, that's what I thought, from their bags and
outfit. I hope they all (kids and dog) are well.
There's still hope on humankind when we see this kind of thing!
I agree. When we get into real trouble, we, humans, react. Fortunately.
I want to raise my children to be like this. We all should.
;_; what good kids i hope they someday know how this one act of kindness has given people hope for humanity and how much people love them for doing this. ^_^
Me too, Rebecca! If there were a way to tell them…
It's really amazing
When I looked at this I saw some good hearted kids doing the right thing. Then I thought, "What the hell is wrong with this person taking pictures? Unless they had some super telephoto lens they were certainly close enough to give them a hand whether they needed it or not."
This is how I see the world. All sorts of kinds of people bunched together, all different in so many ways and similar in many more ways. All are varying degrees of good and not so good. But what bugs me is that there seems to be way to many people talking about good, and applauding it rather than getting involved. This is what these photos and so many others represent for me. A reminder of the few who do and the many who just watch and comment.
These are of course the frustrations of someone who has dedicated their life trying to do good. It's a pretty small club, but at least we are closely bonded with one another.
I understand your point of view, Yes. And I agree many, many people just don't care about others. But think of how many people the photographer inspired by taking those pix. Am I being too Pollyanna?
Just a thought….before you chew out the photographer of this picture…did you stop to think that maybe the photographer might have been in a boat and they were trying to make their way over to lend a helping hand but didn't get there till the dog was safely on dry ground?
Meredith, interesting point of view. As a journalist, I've been asked many times if I would take pictures instead of trying to help. I am sure I would miss the photo opp if there was no one to help. But if there was someone, I would do my job.
This is such a sweet story:)
They almost lost their supper!
Eh, it aint that steep
Fake
awwwwww :') an action that can change the world
That was in the favela. The kids were very poor. The puppy made a fine meal
thats so nice of them to save a puppy
