When you think of dogs, you think of man’s best friend. And that is very much true. Puppies are naturally companion animals. They enjoy receiving attention. But there are some dog breeds that love to cuddle even more than others.

Let me tell you about Milo for example. He is the opposite of the affectionate dog breeds we will talk about here. He will follow you everywhere, but when it comes to cuddling and doggy kisses, it is on his own terms. When he wants it, he wants it.

These dog breeds that love to cuddle will be happy to enjoy it anytime, anywhere. Now, you might assume the list is full of small dog breeds. Or the toy breeds as we call them usually. But that is not always the case. There are also large dog breeds that cannot get enough affection.

Dog Tip: Before we go to the most affectionate dog breeds, let’s remember something. Be respectful of your dog’s space, and only offer a cuddle if your puppy is relaxed and seeks attention. Touching a dog is an earned privilege, not a right. If you see your dog is feeling uncomfortable, do not try to push it.

Golden Retriever

Golden Retriever

Now here is a puppy you can do anything you like with. There is a good reason why the Golden Retriever is one of the best family pets. Little kids can absolutely do anything to him. Pet him, grab him, hug him, play with his ears, the Golden loves it and enjoys it.

This is why the Golden Retriever is among the 5 most popular dog breeds by the American Kennel Club year after year.

This puppy enjoys playing with kids, gets easily excited, and is very affectionate, gentle, and smart. Just make sure to get him plenty of exercise and you are good to go.

Or you can get his cousin, the Labrador Retriever.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

This popular companion is a royal dog breed. You can say he is an aristocratic dog. Bred since the 17th century, the Cavalier Spaniel is a beloved lap dog.

This puppy can be a couch potato or an active dog. It is up to you to train him to your needs and preferences. Just remember, no dog wants to sleep on the couch the whole day.

Pug

Pug

Pugs love their owners. They are needy puppies. When they are not sleeping, Pugs enjoy nothing more than to cuddle with their human and act foolish and aloof. If you own a Pug, you know he is demanding attention all the time.

The meme that your dog is with you in the bathroom while peeing is perfect for a Pug. This puppy will follow you anywhere you. He just wants to be near you and actively participate in everything you do.

As for cuddling, the Pug loves belly rubs, kisses, and cuddles all day long.

Newfoundland

Newfoundland

We said there will be some big dogs as your snuggle buddy. This calm and friendly dog enjoys snuggling up with you at the end of the day. Yes, he is big, which might make it a challenge to snuggle on the sofa.

But Newfoundland has no idea how large he is. No matter his size, he will try and sit on your lap. Think of it as a giant teddy bear. Perfect for cuddling and incredibly sensitive around children.

Great Dane

Speaking of large dogs that love cuddling, we have to mention the Great Dane. Famously known as the gentle giant, this dog doesn’t handle being left alone for a long time. Separation anxiety is a huge problem with a Great Dane.

But if you like a pet that can hug you while standing, this is the dog breed to get.

Dachshund

Dachshund

Famously known as the wiener dog, the Dachshund is a great family dog. Known for its tiny frame and oddly striking resemblance to a hot dog, this small puppy loves to snuggle with its people.

This is a known fact. Dachshunds are known for their loving and tender personality. This puppy will happily spoon with you or burrow under your bedsheets.

If you like, you can even swing him like a baby in your arms.

Boxer

You might not think of Boxer as a snuggle buddy. But this big dog is on the quieter side and remains dedicated to its human. The Boxer will show you love and affection through snuggling.

There is a reason why many people refer to them as shadows. This companion dog will follow you around the house and happily lay next to you. You can pet and cuddle this puppy after a long day of exercise. Your pup will gladly embrace your cuddles.

This miniature bundle of energy strives for affection. One of the biggest reasons people get a Bichon is because of its fluffy and cotton-ball-like appearance. But they are huggable as they look. Many even consider it the best lap dog.

A true cuddling friend. This puppy loves to cuddle as much as it loves to play with you and with other puppies.

Just be careful, it is not one of the dogs you can leave home alone.

Pit bull

These puppies get so much bad reputation. It is just awful. They might be one of the most loving and goofy puppies. They love to cuddle to the point that dog trainers use affection as motivation.

Pit bulls are affection-driven. No toy or treats can have the effect of affection during training this puppy.

Staffordshire Bull Terrier

American Staffordshire terrier

Similar to the Pit bull, the Staffordshire terrier gets a bad reputation. This puppy has an awful legacy of being used in dog fights. But in the right home, this puppy makes a great family dog and even a lap dog. Do not let its unfair reputation drive you away.

The medium-sized dog is extremely affectionate and devoted to its people. The Staffordshire terrier is a people-focused dog and will be an excellent pet.

Chihuahua

Chihuahua

Here is another dog that gets a bad reputation. But not like the two before. Chihuahuas are often viewed as pesky little barkers. Yes, the small dog is known for its barking. But that only applies to strangers. At home, he is just loving and affectionate.

This little dog develops a great relationship and bond with its owner. Your pet will love nothing more than a lap snuggle.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi

Corgi

This intelligent and energetic animal bonds well with its family. There is a reason the Queen of England has corgis in her palace. These puppies just love to snuggle. Even though they are essentially herding dogs, corgis love to spend time with their people as well.

They consider their human parents as part of the pack and they love to show love to them.

Shih Tzu

Shih Tzu

Let’s finish off the list of dog breeds that love to cuddle with another royal dog. Shih Tzu is a little ball of fur that loves nothing more than to sleep and snuggle with its owners.

Bonus points, you can dress them up any way you like and have fun with their outfit. They do not mind it.
